Conservation Gilding
Alex is adept at both water and oil gilding ranging from large-scale architectural projects to the conservation of gilded objects. In interior settings, gold was used prior to the time of ubiquitous electric light to amplify the flames of candles and lamps. Used in conjunction with a skylight, it could bring much-needed illumination to the interior of a large space. Surrounding a piece of art, the reflections off of a gold-leafed frame illuminate the work.
And yes, Alex can take your old thing and make it look new, if that’s what you want. But if the item is historically significant, he will encourage you to take the conservation route - stabilizing the piece while bringing out the beauty of its original finish.
